Asking for a friend
Marco Reichert
The third solo exhibition at Galleri Benoni by painter Marco Reichert, titled “Asking for a Friend” is an exploration of the intersection between technology and traditional art forms, with a unique twist. The artist works solely with a painting machine, creating monochromatic oil paintings that consist only of lines. But what sets these paintings apart is the way the artist has prepared the canvas, making it reflective in certain areas to create a mirror-like effect.
The use of reflective surfaces in the paintings adds a new dimension to the viewer’s experience. As the viewer moves around the gallery, the angle of the light changes, and the paintings come alive with movement and energy. The reflections of the gallery space, and the viewer themselves, become an integral part of the artwork, blurring the lines between the artist’s creation and the viewer’s perception of it.
The monochromatic color scheme of the paintings adds to the sense of detachment and distance from the natural world, while the precise and geometric lines evoke the language of technology and mathematics. The use of reflective surfaces adds an element of surprise and playfulness, inviting the viewer to question their own perception of the artwork and the space around them.
Reichert’s use of technology in his art is not simply a gimmick, but rather a reflection of his interest in the ways in which technology is changing our relationship to the world around us. The artist’s use of a painting machine and the reflective surfaces, creates a new interpretation of art, and the way we experience it. The exhibition is not only a visual experience but also an intellectual one, inviting the viewer to question the ways in which technology is shaping our understanding of art and the world around us.
The phrase “Asking for a Friend” is often used as a way to ask a question or seek advice without revealing that the person asking is actually the one who needs the information. At a meta level, using this phrase as the title of an art show could be interpreted as the artist being self-referential, acknowledging that Reichert is experimenting with new techniques and concepts, and inviting the viewer to see their work through the lens of this experimentation. By using this phrase, the artist may be suggesting that the show is a form of inquiry or exploration, and that the paintings on display are a reflection of their own process of discovery.

About
We present Danish and international contemporary artists excelling in artistic skill, process, theme-based approach, and curriculum vitae. We uphold meaning, and a constant red thread, despite our diverse choice of shows and exhibitions. Always aiming to amuse and engage viewers on a sentient emotional and inspirational level.

Benoni grew up surrounded by artists, art dealers, and collectors. Being the son of a gallerist, he would travel around Europe with his father to meet artists and explore their work, process, and skills firsthand.

Benoni grew up surrounded by artists, art dealers, and collectors. Being the son of a gallerist, he would travel around Europe with his father to meet artists and explore their work, process, and skills firsthand.
Out of this grew a love and curiosity for the trade. With the ambition of becoming a key player in the Copenhagen art scene, he opened his own gallery in 2010 (Gallery B15 in 2010-2015, Galleri Benoni in 2015-present).
His early experience with the world of creatives, has helped grow a clear vision for the gallery: forming close relationships to fully comprehend the practice, themes and visions of the artists presented in the gallery, and fully understand how to cater to each client with a carefully curated and personalized experience.
Today, he runs Galleri Benoni with his partner in business and life, Camilla Rockall. As a team they are dedicated to meet all visitors to the gallery with an inclusive atmosphere. Together they work to nurture the vision of the gallery while exploring ever evolving ways and collaborations to share their love of the art.
