You can experience the works of Dirk Salz in Copenhagen this summer.

Dirk Salz’s works have been exhibited internationally, with notable solo shows at Galerie Roger Katwijk in Amsterdam, Galerie Frey in Vienna and Salzburg, Galeria Victor Lope in Barcelona, and Diana Lowenstein Gallery in Miami.

In recognition of his contributions to contemporary art, Salz was awarded the Ruhr Prize for Art and Science by the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr in 2021. His artworks are included in esteemed collections such as the Akzo Nobel Art Foundation and various private collections worldwide.

Greetings from Nice and the surrounding coastline, where the UV index is edging towards double digits.

There is something truly unique about the Mediterranean climate when you come from the North. The scents, the colours, the flavours, and the pace of life which all seem a little more relaxed than what we’re used to in Scandinavia.

Some of those qualities are difficult to capture through a camera lens, but one of the highlights from the visit, was an exhibition that brings together two of my greatest passions: Art and Fashion.

Currently on view at the Matisse Museum, the exhibition shown explores the dialogue between Henri Matisse and Yves Saint Laurent—a meeting of two creative worlds that, in the early 1980s, was anything but commonplace, yet has since become the norm.

Today, we constantly see creative minds coming together, exchanging ideas and visions across disciplines. Collaborations between artists, designers, and haute couture houses continue to open new paths and inspire change. The ones who do it best are the ones we remember.

In Nice, you’ll also find a monumental Straight Lines sculpture by Bernar Venet on the Promenade des Anglais (see slide 10). Years ago, I had the privilege of exhibiting one of these sculptures in a small format at an art fair in Copenhagen. It remains a very special memory.

Med HJEMSTAVN undersøger Mark Ebert de steder, vi vender tilbage til. Ikke kun som konkrete steder, men som steder der gemmer på erindringer. Hjemstavn forstås ikke alene som et fysisk sted, men som en forbindelse mellem menneske og sted.

Med udgangspunkt i naturen, i hav og vind, og de steder vi knytter os til, undersøges, hvordan steder kan gemme på minder, og hvordan de fungerer som led mellem det som er, og det, som var.

Værkernes monokrome udtryk brydes enkle steder af kontrastfarver. Ikke store dramatiske brud, men som små områder hvor nye indtryk og sansninger indtræder i det
ellers så velkendte.

Gennem gentagelser, rytmer og små variationer, bliver værkerne præget af bevidst langsommelighed, som en tillid til at det enkle og rolige kan bære meget. De klare farver fungerer som en ny åbning, en ny temperatur eller en antydning af noget hidtil uset. Et praj om, at en hjemstavn ikke er statisk, men er noget levende og
foranderligt.

For Mark Ebert er naturen ikke kun et motiv, men en måde at opleve øjeblikke som lægger sig mellem hjemlig ro og længselsfund melankoli. De øjeblikke kan opstå, når noget velkendt står tilbage, mens både stedet og mennesket har forandret sig. I dette møde bliver landskabet et sted, hvor fortid og nutid eksisterer side om side, og hvor der gives plads til at reflektere over egne personlige steder og den tid, der knytter sig til dem.

HJEMSTAVN handler derfor ikke alene om, hvor man kommer fra, men om de steder, der lever videre i os. Om tilbagevenden, genkendelse og forandring, og om hvordan bestemte steder kan følge os gennem livet som små påmindelser om hvem vi er.
